I booked a trip to San Diego. I didnā€™t realize how much would come home with me.

Months later, Iā€™m still seeing opportunities come from my first Inman Connect. Speakers who are now booked for WRSM. Agents Iā€™ve continued collaborating with. The business coach Iā€™d spent months trying to find. And an invitation to come back and help lead the first-timers in NYC.

None of those relationships existed before July.

You can follow someone for years, but introducing yourself in person gives them the chance to know you, too. And following up when you get home is where so much of this started for me.

Maybe you didnā€™t get that job offer because you wouldā€™ve been miserable working there.

Maybe you didnā€™t get the promotion because the new responsibilities wouldā€™ve cost you the work-life balance you love.

Maybe that friendship ended because you were outgrowing the version of yourself that kept it alive.

Maybe that opportunity fell through because it wouldā€™ve taken you further away from what you actually wanted.

Maybe that person didnā€™t choose you because you wouldā€™ve spent years trying to convince them you were enough.

Maybe that door closed because you were so focused on getting through it that you never stopped to question whether you even wanted what was on the other side.

We spend so much time grieving the things that didnā€™t work out, assuming we missed out on something incredible.

But what if you didnā€™t miss out? What if you dodged something?

Not every rejection is a redirection. Sometimes things just suck. But sometimes, the thing you were devastated about losing turns out to be the very thing youā€™re grateful you never got.

You can be disappointed it didnā€™t happen and still end up thankful it didnā€™t.šŸ«¶šŸ¼

My first designer bag. Actually, my first designer anything. šŸ„¹ And somehow, buying it felt like a much bigger deal than just buying a bag.

Iā€™ve always had a really hard time spending large amounts of money, especially on myself. Thereā€™s always been this little voice in the back of my head saying, ā€œBut what if something goes wrong? What if you need that money later?ā€ So even when I could afford something, Iā€™d convince myself I shouldnā€™t.

The last two years, Iā€™ve worked harder than I ever have in my life. Iā€™ve built, stretched myself thin, taken risks, worked through the days I wanted to throw in the towel, and kept going when it wouldā€™ve been a whole lot easier not to.

For the first time, Iā€™m in a place where I could walk into a store, buy something Iā€™ve wanted, and know that Iā€™m still okay. No guilt. No panic. No worrying that treating myself means sacrificing security somewhere else.

Obviously, itā€™s just a bag. But to me, it represents a version of my life I worked really freaking hard to create.

So this oneā€™s for the girl who kept going on the days she really didnā€™t want to. šŸ’• She deserves the bag.
