Cincinnati's don't-miss festival converts 30 blocks of downtown, Over-the-Rhine and Covington into a dizzying lineup of evening art exhibitions featuring light shows and projections over four days (October 13-16).

On your way to the BLINK parade down Fifth Street on October 13, pop in The Emery lobby (1112 Walnut St) at 5 p.m. to see the new "Cincinnati" mural from New Orleans artist Ellen Macomber. The installation came about after Chris and Jen Frutkin of , the parent company behind the historic complex, saw Ellen's Parisian-style mural inside Justine, a James Beard Award-winning restaurant in New Orleans. Chris and Jen fell in love with the mural that pores through various stages of New Orleans history in multiple hues. The love affair led to a commission for Ellen to install a mural inside The Emery. The mural is made from fabric and other materials and pinpoints key Cincinnati personalities with homages to local birds, insects, flowers, and flying pigs over the city's street grid.

The Emery opening reception and pop-up shop is free and open to the public. DM to schedule a visit and check out her mural and wearable art. Visit ellenmacomber.com for more info.

The Emery renovations set to start in 2021. Watch latest report from WCPO 9.

"In real estate, we call it 'bricks and mortar,'" said the building's new co-owner, Chris Frutkin. "Well, there's a lot of bricks and mortar in this building. It just goes on and on and on; [there are] whole rooms we had no idea existed."

Construction could start on the renovation of one of downtown Cincinnati's most historic buildings as soon as next year.

The new Emery logotype references a schoolhouse typewriter style of typography and the building's completion date in 1911. This new mark honors the historic relevance The Emery originally had in Cincinnati as both a schoolhouse and cultural center for art, theatre, education, and sustainability. Used separately, the E icon pulls in the historic Emery theatre as a reference with an abstracted stage light to capture the building's history that is being celebrated during renovations.

Anchor plates made from cast iron are easy to find in Cincinnati, which is loaded with brick construction dating from the nineteenth century. Used on exterior walls of masonry buildings for structural reinforcement, anchor plates were typically made in a decorative style. The Emery features the common five-pointed star shape. This particular plate is pink, the color of universal love. Just like beloved old buildings like The Emery, real love lasts forever. Pic:
