How about a peek at a recent project? This is quite possibly one of the largest master bathrooms I've ever seen! This was a very low-budget project, but it goes to show that you don't have to spend a fortune for big impact! Here are some before, during, and after renovation pictures.
Your eyes don't deceive you, the walls were covered with torn paper bags. I *think* this was once popular because it was supposed to give a leathery look for super cheap. As it commonly goes with wallpaper, under the paper bags was... ANOTHER layer of wallpaper! After so. much. scraping. we ended up paying a contractor to skim coat over what was left. Totally worth every penny.

A little history: Long before Hive Homes existed, we started toying with the idea of investment properties. We were recently married and totally broke. But because of Ross's career as a minister, our first home was a church manse or parsonage, provided as part of his contract. This allowed us to save enough for a small down payment on this adorable starter home (and to send out this Christmas card that year)! We lived here for a few years, continuing to save for the next property. When it came time to move, this became our first rental property!

Where did the name come from? It's simple, really. I am an Enneagram 1, sometimes called The Reformer or The Perfectionist. The bee is representative of an Enneagram 1, and the bee's hive nicely captures some of my business's vision. Each hive is intricate, a perfect design. It's orderly rows of identical hexagons showcase the beauty of following through on good planning. It is their work of art and their community. Each bee contributes and is a critical part of the community. This is what Hive Homes is about: contributing to the community with well-made plans and beautiful design.

So let's talk about who is behind Hive Homes. Hi! I'm Leah, a former commercial construction project manager, and this is my husband Ross, a Presbyterian minister. What a pair, amiright? Starting my own flipping business has been a dream of mine for a LONG time, and our recent relocation from South Alabama to Cincinnati turned out to be the perfect time to start!

I hope you'll join us on the journey as we attempt to bring some sweet southern hospitality to some of Cincinnati's lesser than properties!

Well, I launched myself into the world and then promptly disappeared! I decided to really jump in, and put an offer on this cute house. It was accepted! But after a disappointing few weeks I had to let her go. She was cute and charming and everything I want in a project...except for the extensive problems below the surface.

Here's the point: I could have flipped this house. I could have covered up problems, made the lipstick really glamorous and probably made a decent profit. But that's not what Hive Homes is about. I refuse to compromise my values just to make a profit, and that's what sets me apart from other flippers.
