My client, a colleague from the Action Tank days who restores properties in his free time, reached out because this property is very close to his in-laws’ house, and the family is already deeply invested in this neighborhood.

Located in the Prospect Hill Historic District at the bottom of Mount Auburn, 412 Liberty Hill was the first elementary school in Cincinnati located outside of the downtown basin. It was designed by William H. Stewart and William Walter and completed in 1868, during a period of rapid growth in Cincinnati.

During World War I, the school was used to house soldiers training to become radio operators and telegraphers. It was sold at auction after World War II and converted into 24 apartments for returning veterans.

In 1978, the then-vacant building underwent conversion from rental apartments into condominiums just as the Prospect Hill section of Mount Auburn was undergoing a renaissance. Grand, spacious interiors feature ceilings up to 16 feet tall, brick arches and decks or balconies in the units.

The sturdy 17-unit building is perched slightly above Liberty St. and serves as an architectural gateway to the hillside community of Mount Auburn, with views of Mt. Adams, Music Hall and the skyline.

This Saturday, the College Hill Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (CHCURC) is hosting the College Hill Festival! The festivities kick off at 11am with a parade starting at College Hill Plaza and marching through the neighborhood. The parade will end at Patrick’s Park and begin the rest of the festivities.

The day will be filled with live music, co****le, festival games, face painting, rock wall climbing, vendors, and more!

Patrick’s Park on the corner of Hamilton Ave. and Marlowe Ave. is named for Patrick Wolterman, a Cincinnati Fire Department firefighter who passed away in the line of duty. It was completed in 2019 and has become a valuable community gathering space.

Today we’re exploring Spring Grove Village! With an area of just under 2 square miles, neighborhood housing stock is varied and includes grand Queen Anne mansions, Craftsman bungalows, Tudor Revival homes, foursquares, and modest cottages, with approximately half of SGV residents renting their homes.

Annexed to the City of Cincinnati in 1903, Spring Grove Village (formerly Winton Place) is a primarily residential community, bordered by Clifton, Northside, College Hill, Winton Hills, and the city of St. Bernard. It’s best known as the home of historic Spring Grove Cemetery, the 2nd largest cemetery in the US, spanning 733 acres.

Though primarily a quiet, residential area, SGV has a few interesting businesses.

Super cute Spring Grove Coffee, an initiative of the Village Development Corporation, is open 9am-noon on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. This community-minded coffee shop also hosts a craft night 7-9pm on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, including this Wednesday. Bring your craft and chit chat with neighbors! Mending supplies are provided, and donations are welcome.

Sally's Treats & Treasures offers a huge selection of high quality, affordable kitchenware.
