๐Ÿ“ข Housing Policy Update: AB 1157 (Kalra)

A proposed California bill, AB 1157 (Kalra), would make changes to the stateโ€™s current rent control laws and is scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, January 13.

If passed, AB 1157 would:
โ€ข Adjust the annual rent increase cap to 2% plus CPI, or a maximum of 5% (whichever is lower)
โ€ข Remove current exemptions for single-family homes, condominiums, and ADUs
โ€ข Eliminate the sunset provision, making statewide rent caps permanent
