This week, Todd and I experienced the sale of our home and the purchase of our next one.

Going through the process personally reminded me of something I told our lender at BancFirst, Dallas Stokes: anyone working in real estate should probably buy or sell every couple of years just to stay connected to what clients actually experience.

And honestly…both these transactions came with some heavy challenges.

On our sale, the appraisal received a “Tidewater” designation, meaning there was difficulty finding comparable properties. Thankfully, Sean O’Dell, appraiser and licensed realtor with McGraw jumped in immediately to help with research and support when I called. His professionalism and willingness to help were invaluable!

On our purchase, getting the appraisal results back became far more difficult than expected — even the president of the bank’s mortgage department in OKC was frustrated by the delay and stepped in to make phone calls!

But our loan officer, Dallas, never stopped pushing to get us across the finish line, and because of her persistence, we made it to closing day!

Buying, selling, financing — every part of the process can be emotionally and mentally exhausting at times. That’s why the people you choose to work with matter so much. The right professionals don’t just handle paperwork…they help carry the weight when things get hard.

Grateful for the people who showed up, worked hard, and helped us get HOME.
