There is so much in the real estate industry that needs "attention." But the lawsuits over the last few years have made a difference in the business model that has been destructive more toward our customers and clients than anything prior to those judicial "decisions." I don't often post in a critical way about the industry but the move to "private listings" and telling clients we are thinking of them is a bold face falsehood. If you are thinking of selling your home and the agent you are dealing with "suggests" you go with a private listing, do your research first. The paragraphs below are from Gary Keller, co-founder of Keller Williams, a company that I am not affiliated with but often read his assessments on the industry. This is what he says about "private listings:"
MLSs need to step up: Keller said the rising use of private listings is hurting sellers by undermining competition — and threatening the Multiple Listing Service by circumventing it. He called on local MLSs to reach out to their subscriber base as they work to ensure both members and consumers are being well-served.
He believes that right now, local MLSs are compromised by having only a handful of people making decisions. MLS leaders, he advised, "need to go talk to their constituents, and they should make their decision based on what they believe is best for the consumer."
