CMCSS WINTER WEATHER UPDATE
Monday, January 26, 2026

All CMCSS schools and District offices will remain closed through Wednesday, January 28. All after-school activities, athletics, and practices are canceled through Wednesday. If mission-essential employees need to report to work, their supervisors will contact them.

The heavy winter precipitation that fell over the weekend, combined with the extreme cold this week, is creating a challenging situation for road and facilities crews. While the sun can help with melting, the frigid temperatures from the Arctic front are creating thick, solid layers of ice. The Operations Department and CMCSS leadership will continue to monitor the road and campus conditions. We will notify families ASAP about the status of school for the remainder of the week. Please have plans in place in case there is an extended closure.

As a reminder, Governor Lee has declared a State of Emergency, and authorities are encouraging everyone to exercise extreme caution and avoid nonessential travel. CMCSS leadership will request a waiver from the Commissioner of Education if the district exhausts its five inclement-weather stockpile days this week.

Continued appreciation for our Operations Department, first responders, utilities and road crews, and all mission-essential personnel in the community who are working to keep our community running and safe!

Stay tuned to local news and guidance from local agencies. Please stay safe and warm!

❄️❄️No school Monday or Tuesday ❄️❄️

All CMCSS schools and District offices will be closed Monday, January 26, and Tuesday, January 27. All after-school activities, athletics, and practices are canceled through Tuesday. The School Board meeting will be rescheduled for Thursday, and details will be posted online soon. If mission-essential employees need to report to work, their supervisors will contact them.

The Operations Department and CMCSS leadership will continue to monitor the conditions as the Winter Storm moves through Clarksville-Montgomery County. Governor Lee has declared a State of Emergency, and authorities are encouraging everyone to exercise extreme caution and avoid nonessential travel. The continued frozen precipitation over the next 24 hours and frigid temperatures next week could make clearing roads and campuses more difficult for crews. We will notify families ASAP about the status of school for the remainder of the week. Please have plans in place in case there is an extended closure.

Thank you to our Operations Department, first responders, utilities and road crews, and all mission-essential personnel in the community who are working to keep our community running and safe!

Stay tuned to local news and guidance from local agencies. Please stay safe and warm!

Sleet vs. Freezing Rain: Know the Difference
Sleet

We saw this and thought it was genius!

Sleet
👉What it does: Refreezes in the air.
👉The Result: Ice pellets that bounce.

Freezing Rain
👉What it does: Freezes on contact with the ground.
👉The Result: A glaze of ice that sticks.

Bottom line: Sleet is messy, but freezing rain is heavy and dangerous. Stay safe!

WEATHER READY UPDATE ⛄

Our region is on high alert for the threat of a significant winter storm this weekend. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our area this weekend. We want to ensure all families have emergency plans and stay tuned to local news and weather over the next few days. Please review this winter weather safety information from the National Weather Service. (https://www.weather.gov/safety/winter)

We will continue to keep families updated as the winter weather system moves through our community this weekend. As always, we ask families to please have plans in place in case conditions require closures, delays, or early dismissals. CMCSS will communicate with families via ParentSquare. The district will also share inclement weather closure updates on official CMCSS social media accounts, cmcss.net, and local media. Please ensure that you check your sources when viewing school closure information on social media.

In 2019, CMCSS was named a StormReady district by the National Weather Service, and this past February, CMCSS earned recertification through 2029. To receive this distinction, CMCSS:

❄ Established a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center.
❄ Established more than one way to receive severe weather warnings and forecasts and to alert the public.
❄ Created a system that monitors weather conditions locally.
❄ Developed a formal hazardous weather plan, which includes training severe weather spotters and holding emergency exercises.

Please stay weather alert, families! With the bitter cold forecast for the weekend through next week and the possibility of ice or snow causing power disruptions, please have preparations in place to protect people, pets, pipes, and plants.
