The latest on mortgage rates.

🏡 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟰, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸'𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽: 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 👎
Mortgage rates moved quite a bit higher last week as rising oil prices added to inflation concerns, and both wholesale and consumer inflation showed prices picking up again.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸'𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁: 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 👎
Mortgage rates could push to new highs for the year this week, depending on how markets react to this week's Fed meeting and what happens in the Middle East and with oil prices. It is extremely unlikely that rates have any chance of moving lower this week.

📈 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸:
• The Fed: Markets expect the Fed to hike its policy rate this week to fight inflation, and mortgage rates have already priced in that move. If the Fed hikes as expected, it could actually help mortgage rates. However, if the Fed holds off and doesn't hike, markets could react poorly over concerns that inflation will remain unchecked, pushing mortgage rates higher. That's right, a Fed rate hike is actually favorable for mortgage rates this week.
• Middle East: Continued violence could push oil prices even higher, which would put additional upward pressure on mortgage rates.
