UPDATE FRITZ has left the shelter, thank you McNeely Farmily Rescue and Sanctuary and Fospice Brandi for stepping in for this little guy.
OH NO FRITZ needs help, he is a deadline for today at 5pm. See Plea
Fritz is a 12-year-old intact male weighing 10.8 lbs who is facing a serious medical decline. He was found laying on his side in his kennel, twitching, and is presumed to be post-ictal after a recent seizure. There is strong suspicion of a progressing intracranial mass that is now causing seizures. His vitals today were TPR 98.6/130/30. Fritz has a poor appetite but will eat chicken and other meats when hand-fed previously.
Due to the severity of his condition, end-of-day euthanasia is currently planned to prevent further pain and suffering, as he is not expected to improve and cannot be left unsupervised overnight. His condition is not treatable beyond comfort care, but he deserves one last good day outside of a kennel, surrounded by kindness. We are urgently seeking rescue commitment for Fritz so he can be given comfort, dignity, and love in his remaining time.
RESCUE NEEDED FOR SENIOR
Fritz A2497308 is a 12-year-old intact male, weighing 12.6 lbs, who came to the Pet Resource Center for evaluation as a geriatric patient with a head tilt and neurologic concerns.
He is heartworm negative, but sadly, his examination and diagnostics revealed serious, life-limiting medical conditions.
On presentation, Fritz was quiet, alert, and responsive, though he appears to have significant hearing loss and startles easily. He has epiphora in both eyes, lenticular sclerosis, and a normal menace response.
His oral exam was limited, but moderate dental disease was noted. A grade 4/6 systolic heart murmur was appreciated. His lungs were clear, and his abdomen was soft. Fritz has visible muscle wasting in his hind end, limited range of motion in his back legs, and a thin body condition score of 3/9.
Neurologically, Fritz has a persistent right-sided head tilt and circles to the right, which is highly concerning for a serious underlying neurologic condition, such as a brain tumor or other severe neurologic abnormality.
Bloodwork revealed advanced kidney disease. Fritz is suffering from severe azotemia, with critically elevated creatinine, BUN, phosphorus, and SDMA, consistent with chronic kidney disease (CKD). He is also anemic and showing signs of systemic illness.
Due to the severity of his neurologic condition, significant cardiac disease, and advanced CKD, Fritz is not a candidate for surgery or traditional adoption.
He urgently needs a rescue placement capable of providing advanced neurologic evaluation (if pursued), supportive and palliative care, and long-term kidney disease management to keep him comfortable and maintain quality of life.
Fritz deserves compassion, dignity, and comfort in the time he has left.
Please let us know if you can help this fragile and sweet senior.
