In order to avoid probate and any legal process implicated on the transfer of a home after death, some people have opted for transferring of gifting their home to their kids. When this is done, the home will not have to go through probate after the person who transferred the home dies, but the receiver of your home may be highly taxed.

Be aware of the consequences of gifting Real Estate before you do it, speak with your tax accountant or tax attorney before you make a move. Are you aware of what a gift tax is and how that can affect a gift that you give to your kid? You are allowed to gift to each one of your kids up to $14,000 per year without being taxed. If you gift is higher than $14,000, what tax will your kid be obligated to pay? Is it worth it doing this?
