Anybody who knows me personally and has been to my home at night has seen that I’m not shy when it comes to using solar lights in my landscaping. The great thing about these lights is their usefulness when it comes to a power outage. I still love telling people about how great our water filtration system worked for us when hurricane Irma blew through back in 2017. We filtered our pool water with it and it carried us through for five days. So heads up Florida, it’s about time to start thinking about the “H” word. A lot of you know me (Shianne) and know that I spent the better part of the last 10 years as a sales consultant for My Patriot Supply, one of the biggest Emergency Preparedness companies. There’s a lot to be said for all that I learned, and all that I shared with my customers, and it is still just as important today as it ever was. Perhaps even more, with the events that we see whirling around us and the world. As Floridians, hurricane season causes our Spidey senses to start scouting for the loose ends to tie up before one of those massive storms roles through and turns our world upside down. It’s a given that here in Florida, Emergency Preparedness is part of our way of life, starting in June. Every single year.

I’ve put an additional the Home and Harmony page on my Sugar Sand Homes Team website, and I’m calling it Home and Haven. I Looked up the Definition of “Haven” and thought to myself, Perfect.

The story behind my work with My Patriot Supply is extremely unique, it was one of those things that just doesn’t happen every day, but as it evolved over time, it became an integral part of my life. Now, four years after resigning and moving on to real estate, I find what I learned is essential to all homeowners, new and established. Home and Harmony will provide cool things to make someone’s life comfortable and fun in their home, while Home and Haven mean just that, home and refuge.

Our website is not new, and it’s been around for a few years, but I’ve just added the blog section. We would love it if you would check it out. It’s young, and there is so much more to come. I've been an avid gardener since I was a teenager, but now that I'm in my mid-60s I've had to give up the old-fashioned way of gardening. I don't dig rows and plant seeds, till the ground and w**d on my hands and knees. At my age, it's just not doable, so I've turned to raised garden beds. I wish I would have known about all the benefits of these when I was younger, but it's never too late! Whether you have one, or 20, there are so many benefits, sizes, styles, shapes, colors, textures, it makes it difficult to choose!

Raised garden beds offer many benefits for gardeners in the State of Florida. Firstly, raised garden beds provide greater ergonomic comfort for the gardener. Whereas a traditional garden requires bending and squatting, which can put strain on the gardener's body, a raised garden bed can be easily worked while standing upright. Raised gardens are also highly beneficial as they are not easily accessed by common ground pests such as rodents and insects, providing better protection to the plants.

Additional benefits of having a raised garden bed include allowing for better drainage of water, as well as making it easier to relocate plants if needed. The walls of the raised beds create their own contained environment for the garden soil, which can help improve and maintain the quality of the soil over time. Additionally, because of the contained environment, the garden soil warms up faster in the spring, making it conducive for early-spring planting.

Finally, because the garden beds are modular and self-contained, they can easily be moved or rearranged as needed. This allows for greater versatility and flexibility in the garden space.

Overall, raised garden beds provide a variety of benefits for gardeners in Florida and can enhance the experience of gardening.

A simple search on Amazon can show you many different styles and this one here is one of my very favorites! I don't have to bend over at the waist, and the beautiful natural wood color is so beautiful to look at. These raised beds make gardening a real pleasure!
