So.. Rick and I are down at the barn listening to Pandora Music on the JBL speaker connected to Bluetooth. The horses are in the stalls, and the night is just perfect. Warm outside and a beautiful sky. I then asked Rick what are the three all time top music groups from his lifetime that are his ‘Go To’. Since I discovered Pandora; Van Morrison and ELO are my choice. The music, mixing is crazy good, we have LP’s from the 70’s and great stereo equipment so we are able to take us back to that that era. Dire Straights, Mark Knopfler is third on the list and of course Buffet, but he is totally in another league. I won’t put him into this equation. Then, ‘The Band’ Levin Helm, Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Garth. Then Joni Mitchell sang background. It wasn’t piano heavy, it was guitar. Take a few minutes and pull up Van Mirrison and listen to ‘Steal My Heart Away’. The horns and balance of the song is simply special. So, thinking not many people take the time or have the opportunity to sit under the stars, go back to the 80’s to listen closely. Ok, Norah Jones ‘Turn In You’. Ravi Shinkar’s daughter, played the Sitar.
So, ‘Take a Load off Manny’. The Band. This song takes us back, the late Levon Helms, Garth was classically trained and told his parents he was giving lessons so he could play with the band, then Mavis Staples was Gospel, and Pops was a blues singer that went to Gospel but said Blues would be in every song that I play. Neil Young at ‘The Last Waltz and the song ‘Helpless’. This was ‘The Bands’ last concert in San Francisco. We agreed, people have forgotten just how special this is. We are from a generation that is being passed by. Music is of the soul. We are really fortunate to have lived this journey.
