What we thought was reflux turned out to be something far more serious. After an endoscopy at the end of October, my husband, Howard, was diagnosed with esophageal adenocarcinoma.

Beginning December 30, he will start five weeks of chemo-radiation therapy, followed by surgery—an esophagectomy. The road ahead will be long and challenging, but we are holding onto hope, as his treatment plan offers a strong chance of cure.

Adding to this difficult time, earlier this month Howard fell down unshoveled front porch steps while on a job and may have torn his rotator cuff. He had planned to continue working until
chemo-radiation made it impossible, but now he physically cannot. He is currently in the process of starting physical therapy and managing this injury alongside the beginning of his cancer treatment.

I’m sharing this not for sympathy, but for strength. We would truly appreciate your prayers, positive thoughts, and support as Howard begins this difficult fight. Thank you for standing with us and for keeping our family in your thoughts. 🙏🏻💜. Many thanks from the Braun family
