The school real estate and personal occupation/per capita taxes should be landing in your mailbox today. Even if you DO NOT own property in Coal Township you should still receive a personal occupation tax, The amount you pay is based on your job. It is NOT the same tax that comes out of your paycheck. PLEASE remember tax collectors DO NOT make the rules. We are just the middle man. we just collect and pass it on.
If you live and work in PA you may be subject to these taxes. Tax collectors have nothing to do with the rules for ANY OF THESE.
-Earned Income Tax (EIT)
What it is: A tax on earned income, which includes wages, salaries, and net profits from businesses.
Who pays it: Residents and non-residents working in a municipality that levies the tax.
-Local Services Tax (LST)
What it is: A tax levied on individuals who hold a job or profession within a taxing jurisdiction. It is also known as the Emergency and Municipal Services Tax (EMST) in some areas.
Who pays it: All employees, including full-time and part-time workers, whether they are residents or non-residents, who work within a municipality that has enacted the tax.
-Occupation Tax -(the one you're getting today)
What it is: A personal tax levied on individuals based on their occupation, not their income. It is authorized by the Local Tax Enabling Act.
