Mikkie is an amazing woman who has done so much for the City of Coconut Creek including Wynmoor. May you be blessed with long life and in good health. I love you and the community loves you too
Today was proclaimed Mikkie Belvedere Day in Coconut Creek. Belvedere retires in a couple of weeks as City Commissioner after 12 years of service.
WHEREAS, Mikkie Belvedere began her advocacy for the residents of Coconut Creek as a member and Chair of the Environmental Advisory Board in 2004. She was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Board in 2008, and also served on the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, On March 10, 2009, Mikkie Belvedere was elected to serve on the City Commission representing Commission District B; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure as a Coconut Creek City Commissioner, Commissioner Belvedere has served as Vice Mayor and Mayor; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Belvedere was nominated by her peers to represent the City on the Metropolitan Planning Organization, where she served until this past year; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Belvedere was the founder of the Multicultural Circle, a group formed to “unite the Coconut Creek community by exchanging ideas, and sharing, appreciating, and celebrating customs and cultural experience.” Under her guidance, the Multicultural Circle implemented Art Fest, a tribute to cultures around the world in the form of arts, sculptures, music, food, and entertainment for the Coconut Creek community that has since become an annual City event; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Belvedere served as a Charter Member and Ambassador Committee representative for the Coconut Creek Chamber of Commerce and is a staunch supporter of small business promotion; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Belvedere’s commitment to civility, diversity, and inclusion is to be admired and appreciated, including her signature closing “keep smiling,” as her efforts began more than a decade ago and have helped shape Coconut Creek’s culture; and
WHEREAS, Mikkie Belvedere has been a valued Commission member for 12 years, and the City appreciates the time and knowledge she has given to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission of the City of Coconut Creek, Florida, hereby proclaims March 11, 2021, as
“MIKKIE BELVEDERE DAY” in the City of Coconut Creek and expresses appreciation for her devoted service to the City and residents.
