This is why the garden district is so special…. I have walked all of the streets in the garden district…. Onto the next 🤍
 Those sidewalk stamps in the Garden District are likely very old — many date back to the early development of the neighborhood between about 1890 and 1925.

The Garden District itself is one of the oldest parts of Coeur d’Alene, with most homes and infrastructure built during the city’s big growth boom in the early 1900s.

Back then, it was common for street names to be stamped into concrete sidewalks at intersections so people could navigate before modern street signs became standardized. Many cities replaced those sidewalks over time, but Coeur d’Alene preserved quite a few of them.

So if you’re seeing original stamped names in the concrete, there’s a good chance some of those sidewalk sections are:

* around 100–120+ years old
* poured during the original neighborhood platting and sidewalk construction
* potentially from the 1905–1920 era when the district rapidly expanded

A lot of the Garden District’s surviving infrastructure is considered historically significant now, which is one reason the neighborhood was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.
