💙🤍❤️ Juneteenth: Freedom Day ❤️🤍💙

Juneteenth, a day memorializing the end of slavery in the United States. Observed on June 19, the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston TX learned of their freedom. Celebrating freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

The Official Juneteenth Flag was created in 1997 by activist Ben Haith, the official Juneteenth flag uses the exact colors of the U.S. flag. This intentional choice signified that enslaved Black Americans and their descendants were always Americans, and that their freedom is a foundational part of our nation.

❤️ Red: Represents the blood shed by enslaved people who fought and died for liberation.
🤍White: Represents purity, liberty, and a new beginning for all.
💙Blue: Represents the American flag and stands for hope and a broader freedom

Today we honor our history and celebrate unity, respect, and equality for all.

This is awesome for our community!
Notice how they are trying to limit the roadwork in residential streets!
Thank you City of Coffeyville for paying attention to what your residents need!

Coffeyville Secures Funding for Sewer System Improvements

In mid-March, Mayor Jim Falkner and our Superintendent of Wastewater & Stormwater Services, Shane George, traveled to Topeka to receive a $701,503 grant through the Kansas Department of Commerce Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

This funding will support an upcoming sewer improvement project focused on smart, efficient solutions to strengthen our system for the future.

The project will use a trenchless repair method called Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP). Instead of digging up large sections of roadway, this process installs a liner inside the existing pipe that hardens into a brand-new pipe within the old one. The result? A smooth, joint-free surface that improves flow and helps prevent future leaks.

Most of the sewer line is a great fit for this method. In a few areas, small point repairs will be completed first, and one section will be replaced using pipe bursting due to heavier debris.

We’ll also be rehabilitating brick manholes with a protective lining system and installing new frames and covers to further extend the life of the system.

✔️ Less digging
✔️ Reduced disruption
✔️ Longer-lasting infrastructure
✔️ Cost-effective improvements

This approach allows us to make meaningful upgrades while minimizing the impact on our streets and neighborhoods.

This is a great example of how we’re working proactively to maintain and improve the essential systems that serve our community every day.
