14 years later and I can STILL hear one of my real estate professors saying this…

"PRIOR PROPER PLANNING PREVENTS P**S POOR PERFORMANCE." Not exactly the inspirational quote you’re going to find hanging in Hobby Lobby, but damn if it isn’t true. 🙌🙌🙌

He did an entire segment on this saying in real estate school and for whatever reason, it stuck with me. At the time I understood how it applied to real estate. Now I realize it applies to pretty much everything.

Because real estate will teach you REAL quick why planning matters. There are a million moving parts in every transaction. Deadlines, inspections, appraisals, financing, title work, negotiations…You can’t prevent every problem. Trust me, real estate will find new ones you didn’t even know existed.

But you can PREPARE.

Know the contract. Know the numbers. Ask questions before they become issues. Stay ahead of deadlines. Communicate. Have a plan B… and sometimes even a plan C.

And I think that’s one of the biggest things experience gives you in this business. After enough years and enough transactions, you start seeing things coming before they get there.

But lately I’ve been thinking about how much this applies outside of real estate too.

Business. Money. Family. Goals. Just LIFE.

You’ll never be able to plan for everything, but a little preparation on the front end can save a whole lot of stress on the back end.

14 years later and that professor’s lesson still sticks with me.

One thing about me as your Realtor… you’re not going to be left wondering what the heck is going on.

Communication and transparency are HUGE to me during a real estate transaction.

Buying or selling a home is stressful enough without sitting there wondering…

Did she get my text?
Has she heard anything?
What are we waiting on?
Is this normal?
Are we good?!

My past and present clients can probably confirm that most of the time, it’s not me we’re waiting on. 🤣 AND they get not only a weekly Monday morning update with what to expect for that week but some times multiple check ins depending on what stage of the process we are in.

If my phone rings, I answer it. If I miss you, I’m calling you back. If I get an update, you’re getting an update. And if I DON’T have an update, I’ll tell you that too.

I’ve answered calls while making dinner, at baseball games, on vacation, in the grocery store with a cart full of food… you get it. Dropping everything to answer right away. My family has definitely heard, “Hold on, Mom has to take this,” more times than I’d like to admit.

But when you trust me with one of the biggest transactions of your life, I take that seriously.

And transparency matters just as much.

I’m not going to tell you something just because it’s what you want to hear. If there’s a problem, I’m telling you. If I think something is a bad idea, I’m telling you. If something comes up that we need to deal with, we’re dealing with it.

Sometimes my job is selling houses.

And sometimes my job is sending my fourth “Hey! Just checking in on this…” while trying to make it sound like it’s definitely my first. 😂

Real estate has A LOT of moving parts. Lenders, inspectors, appraisers, title companies, attorneys, other agents, buyers, sellers…

And sometimes I feel like my entire day consists of asking people for updates so my clients don’t have to.

That’s literally my job.

You shouldn’t have to chase your Realtor down.

You shouldn’t have to wonder what’s happening with your own transaction.

And you definitely shouldn’t be sitting there thinking, “Should I text her again or am I being annoying?”

TEXT ME AGAIN. 😂

Call me. Ask me the question. Ask me the same question you asked yesterday because you forgot what I said. Send me the house at 10:00 PM and ask if we can see it tomorrow.

I promise you, you are not bothering me.

Will every transaction go perfectly? Absolutely not. I’ve been doing this long enough to know that real estate can humble you REAL quick. 😬

Things happen. Problems come up. People take longer than they’re supposed to. Something completely random gets thrown into the mix at the eleventh hour because apparently we needed a little more excitement.

I can’t control every part of the transaction.

But I CAN control how I communicate with you through it.

You’ll know what’s going on.
You’ll know where we stand.
You’ll get the truth from me, even when it’s not necessarily the answer we were hoping for.
And you’ll know I’m working behind the scenes to keep things moving.

Because at the end of the day, I want my clients to feel like they have someone in their corner who actually gives a crap.

Someone who answers the phone, tells them the truth, fights for them when needed and doesn’t disappear the second the paperwork is signed.

Communication. Transparency. Follow through.

It sounds simple.

Earlier this year, one of my sweet clients gifted me this candle at closing. This weekend, I was working on preparing an offer for one of my clients while the kids patiently waited for me to go outside and play. Walker picked it up and read the label. He looked at me and said, "Mom, that isn't true... you're the best realtor in this WORLD!" 🥹I'll be honest, that meant more to me than any award or recognition ever could.
