The older I get, the more I realize peace is something you protect before life forces you to notice it.
Everything can feel normal right up until the moment it doesn’t.
You’re driving to work, sitting in a doctor’s office, answering a phone call, checking on someone you love, or just moving through a normal Tuesday.
Then life suddenly splits into before and after.
I learned that in Iraq, and it changed the way I look at ordinary days.
I’ve buried friends who were younger than me, and I’ve seen how fast plans can disappear when tomorrow doesn’t show up the way you expected.
That kind of experience makes the boring parts of life feel different.
The quiet morning matters.
The healthy body matters.
The normal family dinner matters.
The safe drive home matters.
The text from someone you love matters.
The day where nothing major happened matters more than most people realize.
Those days don’t always feel like blessings when you’re busy chasing the next thing, building the business, paying the bills, saving the money, investing for the future, and taking care of everyone around you.
But they absolutely are.
Don’t get so busy building a life that you forget to actually notice the one you’re living.
Some of the best days won’t look special while they’re happening.
They’ll just look normal.
And normal is worth protecting.
