Happy Birthday to Richard Nira, my partner in life and business!

At Pillowbeat Homes, there is a lot that happens behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly — and Richard is such a big part of that support system. He is the kind of partner who helps carry the tasks, the mental load, and the everyday responsibilities without needing to be asked.

He is lovingly known as the laundry, trash, and dish fairy around here, and honestly, that says so much about the way he shows up — consistently, quietly, and with care.

Yesterday was full of excitement with a fallen tree, so this post is a little late, but we still had a wonderful birthday celebration. There was pecan pie for lunch, blueberry pie for dinner with a #1 candle, a clackity keyboard, and the cutest vintage windmill salt and pepper shakers with working sails that make a little chime.

June kept us on our toes at The Castle Hideaway — in the best way possible.

We are so excited to share that The Castle Hideaway was rented all but 7 days in June! It was a busy and rewarding month, and we are incredibly thankful for every guest who chose to stay with us.

This month brought several firsts, including same-day turnovers and even three turnovers in one week. Running a successful short-term rental is definitely not for the faint of heart, but it is so worth it when we know families and friends are making special memories here.

A huge thank-you goes to our amazing cleaning team and yard crew. They help us keep the property beautiful, clean, and guest-ready. We also put in a lot of behind-the-scenes work ourselves, and before each arrival, we always do one final walk-through to make sure everything is just right.

Our goal is always to create a stay that feels comfortable, clean, welcoming, and memorable.
