In Loving Memory of Jose Angel Portales December 19, 1946 – July 19, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Jose Angel Portales, who passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026. Born on December 19, 1946, in Bryan, Texas, he was the son of the late Alberto Ramirez and Antonia Portales Martinez.
Joe was best known around town as "Daddy Cool." He was a very kind, loving, and quiet person. He dedicated more than 17 years to Bryan Independent School District as a custodial worker, and he was very proud of his work to make sure everyone was taken care of.
Joe is preceded in death by both parents, Alberto Ramirez and Antonia P. Martinez, Domingo Martinez, and two brothers, Daniel and Ruben Martinez.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Audrie McCullough and her husband Jerry, of Boulder City, Nevada; two brothers, Paul Martinez and David Martinez and his wife Mona; and his sister, Frances Martinez, all of Bryan, Texas. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
A special thank you is extended to AccentCare for providing him with the best caregiver you could ask for, Gwendolyn Hall. We would also like to thank the LULAC community of friends he met throughout the years where he lived.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas, on July 30th at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate a life filled with love.
Though our hearts are broken by this loss, we find comfort in the memories we shared and the lasting impact Jose had in our lives. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in our hearts.🙏
