The P.A. Smith Hotel was built in 1876 in Navasota’s Railroad District using native limestone and a cast-iron façade. Financed by Louisa Loftin, it opened as a three-story hotel and was named after her husband, P.A. Smith, a New York-born businessman she married in 1875.
It later served as the family home and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. By 2017 it had badly deteriorated, but a five-year restoration (2017–2022) revived it, incorporating the historic Giesel House next door—the oldest in Grimes County. It now operates as an AAA Four Diamond boutique hotel.
