Long post: sorry not sorry 🤷🏻♂️
If you’ve been wondering about our story, or following along already, here’s a year in review 🙃
It’s crazy to think that 1 year ago, I was being let go from the corporate world after serving the same location for nearly 10 years. But everything happens for a reason. Those 10 years taught me so many things that have led me to where we are today. 8 years of being a mechanic working for 100% commission taught me hard work, discipline, and grinding for a paycheck. It taught me hands on skills, problem solving skills, and how to deal with working in the heat. Then I transitioned into service management where I learned people skills, time management/coordinating skills, multi tasking, customer service, and sales. I was doing well for myself. No way I would leave a good paying job that I enjoyed. But the lord knew I had more potential and that all of these skills I had learned over the years could be applied elsewhere. So he opened a door. And what a year it’s been..
The next day I sold my car and used the cash for a down payment on a new truck. I had a buddy donate an old trailer with a broken axle to me and I formed the LLC. Being a mechanic I fixed the trailer up in 1 day and then we were in business. I started small with random jobs here and there that I could pickup from the network I had. I started branding and getting the word out there. I advertised and networked in any way that I could. Even paid for leads. Eventually we started getting more jobs that my open trailer wasn’t made for so we had to start renting. I utilized U-Haul’s and and my new connection with C&C Trailer rentals. And this is how we operated for months. Eventually I traded my old Chevy truck for an enclosed trailer of my own, bought my own dump trailer, and hired a couple of hands. We were operating out of a storage unit at first where we stored our equipment and had a couple spots rented to park the trailers. It was a small system but it worked. And we made the most of it every day. We started picking up some of the coolest jobs like trips to Colorado, Hauling the logs for the Aggie bonfire, Hauling tailgating trailers, gun safes, pianos, full property cleanouts, renovation cleanouts, 6000sq ft mansion moves, commercial windows for home builders, and of course the regular family moves and some of the smaller stuff like college kid moves, furniture deliveries, and even simple supply runs from Lowe’s for customers. No job was too small or too big. The answer was always yes and we found a way.
This took us through the Holidays and afterwards we made some shifts. We started focusing on local networks and community involvement. We wanted to be able to pour into our home here in BCS. So we joined the Chamber of Commerce, became Ambassadors for the Chamber, joined the YPA, became Strategic Partners with the Womans Council of Realtors, and much more. We started attending every event, supporting every new businesses ribbon cutting, sponsoring events/prizes/lunches/etc. We donated to different non profits, and volunteered where we could. Not because we wanted to be seen, but because we wanted to be involved. This will be our home for a very long time and NorthField Hauling is going to be a huge part in it. That being said, it definitely helped with business too 😅
Our business has blown up substantially over the past few months. We are now in our very own location, running with full time employees, contracting with multiple large companies as some of their prime mover/hauling partners, including Texas A&M. We have served over 400+ customers in this past year, earned over 100+ 5 star reviews across different platforms, become an accredited BBB member, and built so many amazing relationships and connections in this town that now we are being forced to expand. On the daily, my phone rings dozens of times a day with new leads/referrals, we keep 40+ jobs locked in the books, and continue to serve multiple clients a day. We are growing and we are blessed.
In case you didn’t know, NorthField was started as a faith and family focused business and we continue to serve out that mission daily. “For even the son of man came not to be served, but to serve” -Mark 10:45
We are here to serve this community in every way that we can. And I am blessed to share what this has done for us. My wife was able to walk away from her job in December. Our oldest is now attending Brazos Christian private school. Our youngest is being homeschooled. We are playing on volleyball teams and going out with friends. We are actually attending church more regularly and our kids are making friends with some of the neighbors. All of these are things that were near impossible with my previous career in dealership life.
I don’t want this post to sound like any sort of bragging or “look at me”. I want this to be a reminder that no matter where you are in life, things can change, you can change, you can adapt, you can start now, you can chase dreams, and you can serve for a purpose. It’s only been a year and so much has changed. So much has improved since the lord opened that door and we took that leap of faith to follow where he was leading. And I’m excited to see where this journey continues to lead us. Northfield is going to continue to grow, continue to serve in this community, and continue to do things with integrity and faith. I hope you’re following our journey because it’s going to continue to be an amazing story. Big things are coming.
