GE Matthews, Inc. G.E. Matthews, Inc. Matthews was founded in 1923 and originally located on E. Bank Street in Petersburg, Virginia. In 1947, Garland E. Brockwell, Sr. in charge.

Matthews moved the office to E. Tabb Street, also in Petersburg, and brought his nephew, R.G. to help with management. Remorsefully, in 1953 G.E. Matthews passed away leaved R.G. Following suit, he asked R.G. Brockwell, Jr. to join the firm. He did, and was soon known to many as "Mr. Matthews". In 1986, John Brockwell joined the firm and in 2000, he acquired it from his father. He then moved the firm to Colonial Heights, where it is located today.
