Highland Vallis is located 30 miles southwest Colorado Springs, an hours drive past Garden of the Gods, and through Manitous Springs, Woodland Park and Flossisant Fossil beds National Monument on the way to the ranch. Wildlife include, but certainly not limited to, Elk, Mule Deer, Bighorn Sheep, Bear, Mountain Lions, Lynx, Bobcats, Coyotes and Turkey. It is said to have the highest number of Mount
ain Lions per square mile in the country. The nearest community is Cripple Creek, Colorado where gold mining and gambling are still the primary sources of income. In a direct line the ranch is about 9 miles away and by car it is about 20 miles/ 30 minutes away. Commercial flights are available from Denver and Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs has many local attractions including the following: the world-renowned Broadmoor Hotel, Garden of the Gods, Broadmoor World Arena (Olympics), World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, US Olympic Training Center, US Air Force Academy, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Glen Eyrie Castle, Bishop Castle, Pro-Rodeo Hall of Fame, Will Roger Shrine of the Sun, Seven Falls, Helen Hunt Falls, Western Museum of Mining and Industry, Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum. Other nearby attractions include the Florissant Fossil Beds, Royal Gorge, Cripple Creek gold mines and casinos, Pike’s Peak Railroad and drive, abundant rafting, biking, hiking, skiing, horseback riding and climbing adventures. The best airport for private planes is Fremont County airport east of Canon City. Breckenridge, Vail and Denver are about 75 miles away in a northerly direction and take an average of about 2 hours to get to by car from Highland Vallis. The Royal Gorge and Arkansas River are less than 30 minutes to the south.
