It’s been a few months since I joined colleagues in Washington, DC for the FSI Advocacy Summit, but the experience has stuck with me.

Advocacy doesn’t stop when the meetings end. Staying engaged means continuing to show up, stay informed, build relationships, and be part of the conversations affecting the people and communities we serve.

It was also a good reminder that advocacy can take many forms. We all bring different experiences, backgrounds, perspectives, and skills to the table, and we all have opportunities to use them to make a positive difference. Whether that’s engaging with lawmakers, serving in our communities, mentoring others, or simply lending our voice and experience where it can help, there’s value in getting involved.

If you’re looking for a career where your unique background is valued, your voice matters, and your experiences can help make a difference, I’d love to connect.

For when they make a documentary about how we built the best team in the business.

Okay, maybe that’s getting a little ahead of ourselves. But when you get to work alongside people you genuinely enjoy, doing work you believe in, for a community you’re proud to serve… you can’t help but feel like you’re part of something pretty special.

We’re building something special, and there’s always room for the right people. Think you could see yourself at ? Let's connect!

Quick survey: What’s one thing you’ve accomplished since 2016 that you’re genuinely proud of?

Big or small. Career, family, finances, military milestones, personal growth, something you finally checked off the list. Drop yours in the comments.

For me, 2016 marked about a year into my career with First Command after retiring from 21 years of service in the Navy. I was learning a new role, building relationships with clients, and figuring out what this next chapter of service would look like.

Ten years later, that chapter has grown quite a bit.

Today, I serve as a District Advisor, helping coach and develop advisors as they build their own careers serving military families and clients in our community.

Ten years is a funny amount of time. Day to day, progress can feel almost invisible. Then you look back at where you were in 2016 and realize just how much ground you’ve covered.

So, consider this your excuse to brag on yourself a little.

2016 → 2026. What are you proud of?

Back in January, service members received a 3.8% basic pay raise. Eight months later, I have a question for the military families in our community:

Where did it go?

There's no single right answer. Maybe it went toward a higher TSP contribution or helped build your savings. Maybe a PCS changed your expenses. Maybe groceries, childcare, housing, or everyday life simply cost more than they did a year ago.

The important part is knowing the answer.

If that question made you realize you're overdue for a financial check-in, I'd be happy to connect you with one of the Financial Advisors on our team. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes is all it takes to make sure your money is still moving in the same direction you are.

First Command Financial Services, Inc. and its related entities are not affiliated with, authorized to sell or represent on behalf of or otherwise endorsed by any federal employee benefits programs referenced, by the U.S. government, or the U.S. Armed Forces. TSP funds have very low administrative and investment expenses and, low expenses can have a positive effect on the rate of return of your investment.

What I enjoy most about being a District Advisor is helping Financial Advisors grow in their roles and supporting their professional development.

Building relationships, sharing experiences, and helping Advisors navigate their career paths is a rewarding part of what I do every day.

Military spouses wear many hats during deployment, often balancing family, household, their own careers, and personal responsibilities while their service member is away.

Exploring the financial, emotional, and community resources available can help make that journey a little easier and provide support every step of the way. 👇

One of the things military families get very good at is adapting.

New orders come down, you PCS across the country (or the world), BAH changes, expenses change, the family adjusts. Eventually, a completely unfamiliar place starts feeling like home.

Having lived through those transitions is also valuable experience outside the military.

As Financial Advisors serving military families, understanding things like PCS season and BAH is a core part of understanding the people we work with and the decisions they're navigating.

If you're in the middle of a PCS and haven't had a spare minute to look over how your financial plan might change, reach out and I'll get you connected with a local advisor who will help get you and your family squared away.
