The Wahatoya Peaks rise above the Spanish Peaks region near La Veta, and they’ve been a major landmark for travelers, Indigenous peoples, settlers, and ranchers for generations.

Their name is often translated as “Breasts of the Earth,” and once you see the twin peaks standing over the surrounding plains, it’s easy to understand why they’ve carried so much cultural and geographic significance.

Today, the Wahatoya Peaks and the greater Spanish Peaks area are one of those places that perfectly capture what makes Colorado different — dramatic landscapes, deep history, small mountain towns, and stories most people drive right past without ever knowing.

Cedaredge might be a small Colorado town, but every fall, it becomes one of the sweetest places on the Western Slope. 🍎🏔️

Sitting beneath the Grand Mesa, Cedaredge has a long agricultural history—and apples have become a huge part of the community’s identity.

The area’s elevation, sunny days, cool nights, and growing conditions have helped local orchards produce apples and other fruit for generations. And every fall, that history takes center stage with Applefest, when Cedaredge celebrates its agricultural roots with local growers, vendors, food, music, and, of course… a LOT of apples. 🍏🍎

In this video, we’re digging into the history of Cedaredge apples, why fruit growing became so important to this part of Colorado, and how a small Western Slope community built a tradition around its harvest.

Before school buses, massive campuses, and hundreds of students walking the halls, education in Colorado looked a whole lot different. 🏫🏔️

Scattered across Colorado are old one-room schoolhouses—small buildings that once served as the center of education for entire rural and mountain communities.

One teacher could be responsible for students of nearly every age, all learning together in the same room. Kids walked or rode horseback to school, wood-burning stoves provided the heat, and lessons often focused on reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, and the practical skills needed for life at the time.

But these buildings were more than just schools.

In isolated Colorado communities, the local schoolhouse often became a gathering place for meetings, celebrations, elections, and community events. For some settlements, it was one of the most important buildings in town.

As Colorado grew, roads improved, and school districts consolidated, many of these tiny schools eventually closed. Some disappeared completely—but others are still standing more than a century later.

In this video, we're exploring the history of Colorado's one-room schoolhouses, what daily life was like for the students and teachers who used them, and why these little buildings played such a big role in Colorado's early communities.

Breckenridge is known today for skiing, resorts, and packed Main Street weekends… but back in the 1800s, this Colorado mountain town was a much wilder place. 💰🤠

And one of its craziest stories involves an outlaw named Pug Ryan.

In the late 1800s, Breckenridge was booming with miners, prospectors, saloons, and plenty of money moving through town. According to the story, Ryan and his crew set their sights on the Denver Hotel, pulling off a robbery that would become part of Breckenridge’s Wild West history.

But the robbery itself is only part of the story.

What happened afterward turned into a violent pursuit involving lawmen, gunfire, and a manhunt through Colorado’s mountains—and helped cement Pug Ryan’s name in local legend.

In this video, we’re digging into the Pug Ryan Heist, what happened at the Denver Hotel, the pursuit that followed, and how much of the story is documented history versus Wild West folklore.

It’s a side of Breckenridge most visitors walking down Main Street today would never know existed.

There’s a castle hidden in the mountains of southern Colorado… and one man has spent more than 50 years building it almost entirely by hand. 🏰🐉

Welcome to Bishop Castle near Rye, Colorado—one of the strangest, most impressive, and most uniquely Colorado roadside attractions you’ll ever visit.

What started in the late 1960s as a simple family cabin project eventually became a massive stone-and-iron castle filled with towers, bridges, spiral staircases, stained glass, and even a giant metal dragon capable of breathing fire. 🔥🐉

And the craziest part?

There was never some massive construction company behind it. Bishop Castle is largely the life’s work of one man: Jim Bishop.
