Welcome to The Oxford Hotel — one of Denver's most historic and allegedly haunted hotels.

Opening its doors in 1891, the Oxford Hotel has stood in the heart of Lower Downtown Denver for more than 130 years.

It's survived the Wild West, Prohibition, Denver's changing fortunes, and generations of guests passing through its doors.

But according to local legends, not everyone who entered the Oxford Hotel ever truly left. 👀

One of the hotel's most infamous ghost stories centers around Room 320, where legend tells of a woman who murdered her lover before taking her own life.

Visitors and paranormal enthusiasts have reported strange experiences associated with the room, including unexplained noises, unsettling sensations, and the feeling that someone else might be present.

And Room 320 isn't the only place with a spooky reputation.

Stories of mysterious apparitions, unexplained footsteps, and ghostly encounters have circulated throughout the historic building.

What if one of Colorado's most scenic mountain roads is hiding one of its most disturbing ghost stories?

Welcome to Gold Camp Road — home to some of the most infamous haunted tunnels near Colorado Springs.

Once part of the railroad route connecting Colorado Springs to the gold mines of Cripple Creek, Gold Camp Road winds through rugged mountains, steep cliffs, and old railroad tunnels that have stood for more than a century.

But according to local legend, some of those tunnels are hiding a terrifying secret. 👀

One of the area's most famous ghost stories claims that a school bus filled with children was involved in a tragic accident near one of the tunnels.

The legend says the children never truly left.

Over the years, visitors have shared stories of hearing children's laughter echoing through the darkness, seeing small shadowy figures near the tunnel entrances, and experiencing strange noises when nobody else is around.

Some versions of the story even claim that children's handprints mysteriously appear on vehicles parked near the tunnels.

But here's where history and folklore separate.

There is no credible historical evidence confirming the school bus tragedy described in the legend.

What is real, however, is the road's railroad history, its isolated mountain setting, and the eerie atmosphere that has helped keep these stories alive for generations.

What if a painting on the floor of a historic Colorado saloon held a story so haunting that people are still talking about it more than a century later?

Welcome to the Teller House in Central City, Colorado — home of the mysterious Face on the Barroom Floor.

In 1936, artist Herndon Davis painted the face of a beautiful woman directly onto the wooden floor of the Teller House bar.

But the story behind that painting is where things get interesting. 👀

Over the years, the mysterious portrait became connected to tales of heartbreak, lost love, jealousy, and even death.

Some versions of the legend suggest the woman was someone the artist had loved. Others connect the painting to the famous poem *The Face Upon the Floor*, which tells the tragic story of a heartbroken artist.

But how much of the story is true?

While the painting itself is very real, the romantic and tragic explanations surrounding its creation have become tangled in decades of Colorado folklore.

💀 DAY 8 OF 31 DAYS OF SPOOKY IN COLORADO ⚖️🏔️

Five men disappeared into the Colorado wilderness. Only one came back alive.

And what happened next would become one of the most infamous criminal cases in Colorado history.
Welcome to the Trial of Alferd Packer — the Colorado Cannibal.

In 1874, Alferd Packer set out with five other prospectors into the unforgiving San Juan Mountains. Months later, Packer emerged alone, carrying belongings from the men who had disappeared.

His explanation? They had died in the wilderness, and he had resorted to cannibalism to survive.

But investigators began questioning his story.

Was Packer a desperate survivor forced to make an unimaginable choice? Or was he a murderer who killed his companions for their money and supplies?

In 1883, Packer stood trial in Lake City, Colorado, where he was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. That conviction was later overturned, and a second trial in 1886 resulted in a manslaughter conviction.

More than 150 years after the expedition, the question of exactly what happened in those mountains remains one of Colorado's most unsettling historical mysteries.

It's the story of a real double murder from Colorado's past—and the isolated place where it happened.
Welcome to the story of the Bordenville Murders.

Hidden in the history of Colorado's South Park region is a violent crime that has largely faded from popular memory. The story involves an isolated mountain community, two murder victims, and the man accused of killing them—a case that became part of the darker history of Colorado's frontier era.

And unlike many of the stories we're covering this month, we don't need ghosts, monsters, or paranormal legends to make this one disturbing.

The history does that all by itself.

Tucked into the hills of Manitou Springs sits one of Colorado’s strangest historic homes—and according to legend, one of its former residents may still be walking the halls.
Welcome to Miramont Castle.

Built in the 1890s for Catholic priest Father Jean Baptiste Francolon, Miramont is already unusual before you even get to the ghost stories.

Its sprawling rooms, towers, staircases, and mixture of architectural styles make the building feel like something pulled straight out of another century.
But it's the stories from inside that have made Miramont part of Colorado's paranormal folklore.

One of the best-known legends involves the apparition of a nun, reportedly seen around the castle. Visitors and paranormal enthusiasts have also shared stories of unexplained footsteps, strange sounds, shadowy figures, and the feeling that someone—or something—is nearby when nobody else is there.

Are the hauntings proven? No.
But inside a 130-year-old castle overlooking one of Colorado's most unusual mountain towns, the stories have had plenty of time to grow. 👀
