Most service members see that allowance hit their LES every month and never realize how much house it actually unlocks once a lender treats it as income. On a VA loan it counts as income, gets grossed up for being tax-free, AND goes to work with $0 down and no PMI. That's a stack the civilian next door doesn't get.
