I'm just going to welcome myself back here real quick. I ended up taking an extended break from social media. I had no intention of doing so, but it just happened and I'm glad it did. It started with our daughter letting us know how she noticed that "all we do is scroll and scroll". Huh, wait....she notices that? Is that what we do? I decided I was going to make a change in light of her perception.
We ended up taking a family vacation to Estes Park a little while back. We as a family had an incredible time of relaxation and connecting. I decided while on that trip I was going to fast social media. Well, once we got home I realized I was enjoying the feeling of not be connected in such a digital manner so I told myself, I'll extend it another week. Well, after that week- I just decided that when I'm ready, I'll reconnect again- but on my own terms.
I learned a lot about myself during this time and the effects that social media has had on me. Some positive, but a lot of negatives. I'm definitely going to be more intentional about who I give access to my life digitally. At some point, I'll share some of my takeaways, but for now I'll slowly re-enter while having some pretty good boundaries for myself.
I will likely implement a social media break every once in awhile and I encourage you to try so as well, even if it's only for a week or a few days. You'll be amazed how great it feels to not be surrounded or potentially influenced by all of the noise of social media. I promise the world won't end if you take a break!
