💢FOUND DOG. POSSIBLY DUMPED IN THE MOUNTAINS.
Are you missing your Cane Corso dog or know someone that does? I found a male, dark gray, super cropped ears, docked tail, youngish' Cane Corso dog in the mountains on the afternoon on Monday, May 27, 2024, on Upper Gold Camp Rd.
There were a couple of vehicles that passed him and tried to see if he was friendly, but he just kept walking. He was walking slowly and extremely sad.
Finally, when I stopped, he walked past me, but I kept talking to him. He turned around and came back. Then he jumped up on the door and truthfully, I was a little nervous because although he looked sad, he also looked incredibly strong. (And I didn't want him to scratch my friend's truck.)
He considered walking away again, but then decided to go on the other side of truck and then I got out of the truck. We eventually got to the point where he trusted me to pet him.
I was not in my own truck, so I didn't feel right putting him in the truck, and thankfully another truck with a with a couple stopped to try and help. SUCCESS, the other lady, Kristina Rider-Nalley, dropped the tailgate and the dog with some coercion jumped in.
They took him to the Humane Society on 8th Street. HS scanned and did not find a chip. I've reached out to Cane Corso Breeders to see if they know the dog or can track down any owners that purchased gray puppies.
He did not look to be hungry, but my gut is telling me he was dumped because of his demeanor and willingness to let his guard down. The couple that took him to HS 8th Street and I asked everyone we could find in the mountains, and no one recognized this dog.
*By the way, he is not trusting of any males with facial hair.

💢This boy's last STAY at the Humane Society is tomorrow, Saturday, June 1, 2024. They have tried to assess him, but he doesn't care for it and shows his teeth. They gave him a trazodone to see if that will calm him down and let them assess him.
Here is what happens next:
1.) He will be euthanized after his stay day, June 1.
2.) The original person that turned him in is able to release him (not me, Kristina Rider-Nalley).
3.) He can be released to a no-kill shelter
4.) He can be released to a breed specific rescue
5.) Best scenario, he is assessed, given a positive review, then he can be up for adoption on Saturday or Sunday.
