Today we commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this observance is a time to remember and honor Dr. King’s legacy as a national leader in the fight for freedom, equality, and civil rights. The lessons Dr. King taught us still ring true today.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a man of deep and abiding faith, compassion, and dedication.
Dr. King inspired action. This day is a National Day of Service to encourage all to volunteer to improve communities around us. Think about how you can give back, how you can be a better neighbor, and what you can do to make your community and the global community better.
We are all created equal, endowed with unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The injustices we combat today are the very ones King rallied against more than five decades ago, and as we commemorate his life on today, we also remember his challenge to each of us: to recognize the important role we all play in building a more just and equitable society, to actively expose and eliminate racism and hatred in all forms, and to work every day through our words and through our actions to maintain a steady march toward a more perfect union.
Dr. King’s family wants Martin Luther King Jr. Day to be a “day on, not a day off” — to add value and offer support where it is needed most. Please think of ways you can have an impact, not only on TODAY, but every day.
