❣️ Sometimes, finding your own way forward means helping others along the way.

When Joe came to Welcome Home, he was facing serious health challenges and homelessness. But even during one of the most difficult chapters of his own life, Joe found ways to build community—sharing meals, bringing fellow veterans together, and even creating the “Wheelchair Olympics.”

At one point, Joe chose to give up a housing opportunity at Patriot Place so another veteran could have it.

Today, Joe has stable housing, access to the benefits he earned, and a new chapter ahead of him.

Joe’s story is a reminder that the veterans we serve are more than the challenges that brought them to Welcome Home. They are neighbors, friends, leaders, and sources of hope for one another.

For a veteran, it might start with an unexpected expense, a loss of income, falling behind on rent, or losing a support system. One challenge can quickly lead to another until stable housing is at risk.

That’s why homelessness prevention is such an important part of Welcome Home’s work. By providing support before a housing crisis becomes homelessness, we can help veterans find resources, navigate challenges, and work toward lasting stability.

Sometimes, the most important step is helping someone stay housed in the first place.

It can mean sleeping in a car, staying temporarily with friends or family, moving from place to place, or being just days away from losing stable housing.

These situations may be less visible, but the need for support is just as real.
