☕ **SUNDAY TEA: Baltimore Renters, It May Be Time to Buy Back the Block**
Baltimore’s **Buy Back the Block** program has expanded, giving eligible Baltimore City renters an opportunity to become homeowners in the communities they already call home.
Qualified residents may receive:
🏡 **$15,000** toward purchasing a home
🔨 **$20,000** toward purchasing and renovating a home
💰 These grants **do not have to be repaid**
To qualify, you must generally:
* Have lived at an eligible Baltimore City address for at least 12 consecutive months
* Purchase an eligible home as your primary residence
* Not currently own real estate
* Complete approved homeownership counseling **before making an offer**
* Work with a program-approved lender
* Contribute at least $1,000 of your own funds
* Meet the program’s household-income requirements
Since its 2023 launch, the program has reportedly helped more than **200 Baltimore residents purchase homes across 88 neighborhoods**, representing approximately **$46 million in home sales**.
🫖 **Today’s Tea:** Homeownership is not only about buying a house—it can be a strategy for creating stability, protecting families from displacement and building generational wealth. But opportunities like this require preparation. Check your eligibility, begin counseling and get financially ready before you find the house you love.
Funding is limited and grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t wait until you are “perfectly ready” to start gathering information.
