The story of Magnolia Manor continues to be gently woven into the larger story of our town.

As the Shelby County Arts Council outgrew its humble storefront beginnings and began construction of the beautiful building it now calls home, Mayor Handley asked that an American flag be flown from the crane throughout the entirety of the project. Upon completion, the flag that stood watch over this moment of growth and creativity in Shelby County was carried onward to Magnolia Manor. Today, it is proudly displayed in the Carriage House, thoughtfully illuminated as a lasting symbol of heritage, progress, and community.

Built in 1853, this gracious home was the lifelong anchor of Mildred White Wallace, born within its doors in 1890. Mildred herself lovingly called the home Magnolia Manor, a name proudly preserved in her honor. A gifted and respected composer, she left a lasting musical legacy—one still felt today through her composition of the Shelby County High School Alma Mater.
