As warmer weather arrives, we’re seeing more battery-powered bicycles and scooters throughout the community. These devices are a convenient and enjoyable way to travel, and riders can help keep everyone safe by being cautious and courteous when using sidewalks and walking paths. It is illegal to operate an e-bike on sidewalks with the motor engaged.
🚴♂️ Safety Reminders for Riders:
• Slow down and be alert around pedestrians, children, pets, other trail users, and intersections.
• Give plenty of space when passing and announce yourself when approaching from behind.
• Wear a helmet and use lights or reflectors when riding at night.
• Keep speeds reasonable on shared-use paths and sidewalks.
• Stay focused — avoid distractions such as phones or headphones while riding.
🔋 Battery Safety Matters Too:
• Only use manufacturer-approved chargers and batteries.
• Never charge batteries near exits, combustible materials, or while sleeping.
• If a battery becomes damaged, overheats, smokes, or smells unusual, stop using it immediately.
• Store batteries and devices in cool, dry locations away from direct sunlight.
Lithium-ion battery fires can spread rapidly and are difficult to extinguish. Safe riding and proper charging habits help protect you, your family, and our community.
