📉 Mortgage Rates:
👉 As of 12/09, 30-year fixed rates sit around 6.72%.
👉 Labor market cooling could = mortgage rate relief!
👉 Rates recently dipped to their lowest in 1.5 months after weaker economic data, but have crept back up slightly.
📊 Economic Reports Last Week:
👉 Jobless Claims: Minimal layoffs, but slower rehiring reflects economic cooling.
👉 November Jobs Report: 227k jobs added (above expectations) but driven by temporary factors like strike resolutions. Also, unemployment ticked up slightly to 4.2%, signaling a softer labor market.
👉 Consumer Credit: Credit use surged by $19.2B in October, led by revolving credit like credit cards, growing at its fastest rate in 8 months.
💰 FOMC Update:
👉 Futures show an 85.8% chance of a 0.25% rate cut at the Dec 18 meeting.
👉 Fed officials are weighing inflation (still elevated) and a cooling labor market to guide future rate cuts.
