I seen this ad felt I needed to share it. A friend of mine posted this.
On September 30, my 9-year-old daughter was struck and run over by a speeding e-bike rider (an adult male) while she was stepping off her STOPPED school bus with its flashing red lights activated on Orchard Lake between 10 and 11 mile at Hull Ave.
Police were contacted. The Farmington Hills Police arrived and the responding officer was Nunez Garcia, badge #566. The offender was STILL ON THE SCENE. And the police did absolutely NOTHING. They let the rider walk away scot-free, claiming they couldn't do anything because "there are no set regulations" for e-bikes in the city!
This is a flat-out lie and a failure of duty. Under Michigan State Law (MCL 257.682), passing a stopped school bus is ILLEGAL for any vehicle operator. Mowing down a 9-year-old pedestrian is reckless driving and assault! Police do not need a "local e-bike ordinance" to protect a child from being run over at a bus stop!
While my daughter spent her evening feeling terrified and later getting X-rays on her arm, a dangerous rider was sent on their way by the city’s own law enforcement. How many children have to be injured before the city takes action??
Don't get me wrong ebikes service a purpose but people need to realize that they don't belong on sidewalks, people need to be training how to use them. I feel that there should be some type of safety course you have to take when buying them. I see kids all the time riding through my neighborhood as fast as they can go. On the sidewalks. No helmets. Riding double. It's crazy that we allow this! See less
