So I'm watching videos on YouTube during the Icemaggedon and come across AC/DC's "Thunderstruck". It's the song that played over the loudspeakers when the Cox Mill Chargers football team came out of the locker room and walked down the concrete bleacher steps to the field. I can still hear the click of their cleats as they come by, and see Matt walk out on the field for the coin flip. I always picture him with the mohawk his sister gave him before one of the games.

Then I heard the volleyball bounce twice on the hardwoods as Hannah was getting ready to serve. The thud of her hand against the ball as it barely sailed over the net; the ref's sharp whistle echoing through the gym when the serve wasn't returned... ace.

Were my kids the greatest athletes alive? No, but 14 years ago they were the greatest athletes to me and Liz. Matt will be 32 in less than a month and he and Darian have given us 3 grandchildren. Hannah is 28 and she and Owen have given us our 4th grandchild with our 5th (and 2nd granddaughter) coming this spring.

Is it all roses? Absolutely not, but in the end nothing else other than your faith and family matter. That BMW is not going to hold your hand when the defecation hits the ventilation (thanks for that one, Dad). Love your family and keep them close.

CITY OF KANNAPOLIS RESIDENTS! On Saturday, October 11, from 10 a.m. until noon, the Kannapolis Environmental Services Department & the Kannapolis Youth Council will host a free document Shred Event. The event will be held at the Kannapolis Public Works facility located at 1401 Bethpage Rd. This event is for Kannapolis residents only. Document shredding is limited to five file boxes per person, which is the equivalent of two 40-gallon trash bags. No businesses please.

CITY OF CONCORD RESIDENTS! The City of Concord, Cabarrus County Government, and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont will host a Fall Safe Disposal Event on Saturday, October 25, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Village Shopping Center parking lot at 280 Concord Parkway S.
Residents can bring paper, electronic waste, and unused or expired medications. This event offers residents and business owners the opportunity to confidentially dispose of documents, electronics, and medication in a safe and environmentally-friendly way.
The Safe Disposal event will be drive-thru style. See the guidelines below for more information:
Paper: limited to 5 trash bags or bankers boxes per person
Electronic Waste: televisions, computers, and other devices
Unused or expired medications: the City of Concord Police Department will be on site to safely dispose of unused and expired medications. Needles will not be accepted during this event.

This is part of our "why". We sold this beautiful home in Poplar Trails last month for a special couple. Glen's mom Nina Tucker helped them purchase it in 1996, and they never forgot about how nice she was and what a great job she did for them. Because of that relationship, they decided to interview us for the job of marketing & selling their home...and they hired us! Selling their home of 29 years was definitely emotional for them but now they are living at the beach FULL TIME. We are so grateful we got to be a part of helping them get there.
