Unsheltered Conversations is HomeAid () ’s national podcast that aims to humanize the issue of homelessness by exploring the real stories, relationships, and responses that offer hope and solutions. Through these candid interviews with builders, advocates, nonprofit leaders, people with lived experience, and authors, the podcast elevates the voices shaping the future of housing and belonging in our country.

Our recent Unsheltered Conversation was with Glen Martin of Avila Real Estate Capital | Pacific InterWest a recent California Homebuilding Foundation Halll of Fame Nominee. Glen is a third-generation homebuilder with leadership experience that includes managing California divisions of national homebuilders, international development, and risk management. 🎙️ Our own Executive Director, Crisand Giles, just appeared on the Unsheltered Conversations a podcast by — and the conversation is one you won't want to miss.

Crisand joined Glen Martin, a third-generation homebuilder being inducted into the California Homebuilding Foundation Hall of Fame, to talk about what it actually takes to build housing solutions in Northern California.

Some of what Crisand shared:

▲ The jobs-to-housing ratio in NorCal can reach 8 jobs for every 1 housing unit — making it nearly impossible for working families to find stable housing.

▲ Tiny home communities and interim housing models are meeting a real regional need — and not putting a timeline on people when they move in makes all the difference.

▲ "We shouldn't be 'othering' the homeless... each individual is one life incident from being in this situation. That stigma shift will help make it easier for us to build housing and propose more projects."

Show your support for Crisand and HomeAid Northern California — give this episode a listen and share it with someone who needs to hear it. Every play helps spread the message that housing with dignity is possible. 💙

Mary Teichert Enters CHF’s Builder Hall of Fame!

HomeAid Northern California is proud to celebrate our Board Member Mary Teichert’s induction into the California Homebuilding Foundation’s Hall of Fame! The Hall of Fame honors pioneers and visionaries in homebuilding who embody California’s spirit of innovation, recognizing individuals whose contributions have profoundly shaped the state's landscape.

As president and CEO of Teichert Inc., Mary is the fifth generation to lead the Sacramento-based company founded in 1887. Her ascension to the chief executive's office reflects both her family’s endurance in the construction industry and a deliberate climb through the ranks to steer the Teichert organization towards the future. Under her leadership, Teichert Inc. employs roughly 4,000 people, generates about $1.6 billion in annual revenue, and produces 20 million tons of rock annually. The company’s projects range from subdivision streets, water meters, freeways, solar structures, distribution hubs, and habitat restoration.

Please join us in celebrating Mary and her many accomplishments at CHF’s 41st Annual Hall of Fame Gala on July 28, 2026, at The Ga***rd Pacific Resort in San Diego.
