Amber Hom - Realm Real Estate

Amber Hom - Realm Real Estate Real estate for real life — Sandwich Generation, downsizing, aging parents, multigen homes & everything in between.

The daughter of a single mother of four who was also a real estate agent, Amber learned early on that homeownership could help people pave a path to success. She delights in assisting clients of all ages, life situations, and backgrounds in making real estate moves that help them build wealth and boost their quality of life. Residing in Contra Costa County since 1993, Amber earned her real estate

license in her early 20s and started her career at the Contra Costa County Association of Realtors®. She developed a well-rounded skill set in various aspects of the business and quickly found success — first at the association and later as an account manager at a title and escrow company. In 2007, she decided to create her own real estate practice, and she hasn’t looked back since. Amber’s certification as a Certified Distressed Property Expert® (CDPE) and her extensive work with foreclosures enable her to provide expert guidance to clients in even the most difficult circumstances. Her serene, focused approach to her work has also been shaped by her many years of practicing and teaching meditation, and she often jokes that she is actually a spiritual teacher disguised as a real estate agent. In her spare time, Amber enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, and dog, Jojo. She loves to cook with her husband, who’s a chef; hike the Lime Ridge Trail in Concord; and watch baseball. She also gives back to her community by volunteering at her local food bank and serving on the board of Humanity Power, a social justice organization.

If your parents are aging and still in their long-term family home, you might be playing a waiting game you cannot win.

Waiting for a sudden health scare or crisis to force a move leaves your family with zero leverage and limited options.

Today is the final day of Older Americans Month, but the data remains the same. By 2040, 22% of Californians will be senior citizens. That is a wave of over 9 million people statewide needing accessible living spaces.

Most traditional homes in Contra Costa were built with stairs, sunken living areas, and high-maintenance yards. They simply were not designed for long-term aging in place.

As a Senior Real Estate Specialist, my job is to provide an objective look at local housing options, downsizing data, and multigenerational layouts so your family actually has choices before an emergency makes the decision for you.

💬 If you want to discuss mom and dad’s situation, DM me “PLAN” to look over the local market metrics and floor plans whenever you’re ready.

We’re selling Mom’s house... now what?” 🏡💔

When it’s time for an aging parent to downsize, the logistics of the sale are only half the battle. The hardest part? Figuring out where they are going to go next.

This is where true local knowledge matters. Not every neighborhood in Contra Costa County is built for senior living. Some are beautiful but completely car-dependent.

Others are affordable but lack immediate medical infrastructure or flat, walkable streets for easy mobility.

Swipe through for my honest, boots-on-the-ground breakdown of Walnut Creek vs. Pleasant Hill vs. Concord vs. Lafayette vs. Danville—including real-time 2026 pricing brackets for senior condos and townhomes. 👉

Every family is different, and every parent has unique priorities. But choosing the right neighborhood can mean the difference between them just “surviving” and truly THRIVING in this next chapter.

💬 Comment below with your parent’s current neighborhood, and I’ll give you a personalized recommendation on which local downsizing options make the most sense for their situation!

Attended an event with , and one quote from a speaker really stayed with me:

“Want happiness for an hour? Take a nap. For a day? Go fishing. For a lifetime? Help someone else.” 💛

Such a simple reminder, but such a powerful one.

Being surrounded by people who genuinely care about supporting our senior community reminded me why this work means so much to me. There’s something really special about good people coming together to make others feel seen, valued, and cared for. 🙌

If you’ve ever thought about giving back or volunteering for our seniors, reach out to , they’re always looking for kind hearts to join the community.

I’m not supposed to have favorites but these two are my favorites this week.🤫

📍 Brentwood - Saturday 1-3pm - $569K Move-in ready with the cutest courtyard. Palmilla community. Seriously the best deal in Brentwood right now.

Both priced right. Both ready. Both won’t be here long.

Can’t make it Saturday? DM me for a private showing.

A lot of families I talk to right now are in the sandwich generation caring for kids while also helping aging parents

There is a lot of love in it but also a lot to figure out around home and daily life whether that means living together moving or downsizing

I have helped many families through this in different ways
If this is you I am always happy to talk

Learn what it means to be in the sandwich generation and how Concord families are navigating caregiving, housing, and multigenerational living.

“Where do you have THAT conversation?”

The talk about driving. About staying in the house. About what comes next.

Location matters more than you think.

I’ve mapped 5 senior-friendly restaurants across Contra Costa where families can have difficult conversations in neutral, comfortable territory — complete with insider timing to avoid crowds.

Each spot includes:
✅ Best times to visit (when it’s actually quiet)
✅ Parking & accessibility details
✅ Why the setting helps the conversation
✅ Pro tips from someone who knows these places

📍 Walnut Creek | Lafayette | Pleasant Hill | Concord | Danville
Swipe through for the complete guide.

Then drop YOUR go-to spot in the comments — where do you take aging parents for important talks? Include best time to visit, parking tips, what makes it work.

Let’s build this resource together. 👇
