There have been a lot of advertisements on Facebook and Television about "renting" your roof for solar electricity. My recommendation is to DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Those rental contracts more than likely will end very badly with your savings completely eclipsed. A recent home sale fell apart at the table because the new owner did not want to take over the rental agreement. The sale finally went through after the seller paid $40,000.00 to have them taken off and also pay to get out of the rest of the contract. My opinion: invest more in the beginning and be in a contract with YOURSELF to have FREE electricity once your investment pays for itself. I believe that in the long-run your savings will be much greater. Those companies charge you for cheaper electricity and then sell the additional back to the grid for their profit. The real estate attorney I use for my transactions has looked at the contracts and much of the wording makes her very uncomfortable. Do your homework.
