I get asked this question quite a bit! I usually give my buyers a rough, slightly high estimate of 4% of the purchase price, but this may vary slightly with different circumstances.

How much should I be saving to buy a house? You already know you'll need a down payment, but that's only one line item on your homebuying budget. Here are a few other costs you should plan for:

💰 Mortgage costs (application fee, appraisal fee, origination fee).

💰 Home inspection.

💰 Closing costs (title search, title insurance, processing fee, notary fee).

💰 Property taxes (typically prorated from the date you take ownership).
