Great reminders!

Today we were fortunate to welcome a Fire Safety expert who shared important tips to help keep everyone safe during the holiday season. You might think you recognize her, but she assures us she is not from this area! Below are a few important reminders to consider:

- Keep candles at least 12 inches away from anything that can burn. Make sure they are in stable holders and placed where they cannot be easily knocked over.

- Read the manufacturer’s instructions to determine how many strands of holiday lights can be safely connected.

- Dispose of your Christmas tree after Christmas or once it becomes dry.

- Consider using battery-operated flameless candles, which can look, smell, and feel like real candles.

- Water your Christmas tree every day. A dry tree can burn very hot and very fast.

- Inspect holiday lights each year before use. Discard any strands with frayed or pinched wires.

- Place your tree at least 3 feet away from heat sources such as fireplaces, radiators, space heaters, candles, or heat vents. Be sure it does not block exits.

- Never use a BBQ grill or fryer inside a building or structure.

- Always check electrical cords and lights to ensure they have a UL (Underwriters Laboratory) label.

- Check your smoke detector.
