🏡 Is your credit score in the mid-to-upper 500s? Don’t count yourself out just yet!
A lot of people assume they have to have a 650, 700, or higher credit score before they can even think about buying a home. That’s not always the case.
Depending on the loan program, your overall credit profile, income, debt, and payment history, a credit score in the mid-to-upper 500s may be workable.
And here’s something many people don’t realize: not all debt payments affect your credit score the same way. You could be putting money toward an account every month without actually making the biggest impact on your credit profile.
Sometimes, making a strategic payment toward the right account or reducing a balance can help improve your credit utilization and potentially help your score. Even something as simple as putting an additional $100 toward the right account could make a difference—but it depends on your individual credit report.
That’s why I always recommend getting your credit reviewed before assuming you can’t qualify.
There may also be down payment assistance and first-time homebuyer programs available that can help with some of the upfront costs of purchasing a home.
You don't have to have perfect credit. You need to know where you stand, what needs to be improved, and what options may be available to you.
🏠 If your score is in the 500s, let's see what your path to homeownership could look like. You may be closer than you think!
