As both a homeowner and Realtor, I know how important it is to keep our homes in great condition, especially with the changing seasons. Fall is the perfect time to tackle a few key maintenance tasks to get ahead of any potential issues before winter hits.

I’ve put together a simple checklist to help us keep our homes stays cozy, safe, and ready for the cooler months:

1. Clean gutters and downspouts to prevent water damage.
2. Check for drafts around windows and doors, and add weatherstripping if needed.
3. Service your HVAC system to ensure it's ready for cooler temperatures.
4. Inspect the roof for damaged shingles, leaks, or debris.
5. Trim trees and shrubs away from the house and power lines.
6. Seal cracks in driveways and walkways before cold weather worsens them.
7. Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and replace batteries.
8. Reverse ceiling fans to circulate warm air.
9. Winterize outdoor faucets and sprinkler systems to prevent freezing.
10. Clean the chimney if you use a fireplace.
