Happy 😀 Tuesday 👋 Have you been saying, “I really need to get my Will done…”?

For our final Tip Tuesday during National Make-A-Will Month, estate planning attorney Carlos Aguila of Aguila Law and I wanted to take away one of the biggest excuses many of us have:
“I don’t even know where to start.” 🫣
The good news? You don’t need to have everything figured out before meeting with an estate planning attorney. That’s what they’re there for. ❤️
The bigger question is: What happens if you keep putting it off?
If you don’t make your wishes known and put the proper estate plan in place, Florida law may ultimately determine what happens to your assets and, unfortunately, that may not be what you would have chosen. ☹️
Estate planning isn’t about focusing on the day you won’t be here. It’s about what you can do today to give yourself peace of mind and your family clarity for tomorrow.😌
I’ve seen personally how difficult things can become for a family when everything isn’t planned ahead. And I’ve also experienced the peace of mind that comes from knowing a parent has taken the time to put their wishes in place.

For today’s Tip Tuesday, I sat down with estate planning attorney Carlos Aguila of Aguila Law to answer an important question during National Make-A-Will Month.😉

A few takeaways from our conversation:
👉 Having a Will does not necessarily mean your estate will avoid probate. A Will provides instructions to the probate court about how you want your assets distributed.
👉 Depending on your family, your assets, and your goals, a Will alone may not be enough.
👉 If you own a home, rental or investment properties, property in another state, or have specific wishes for how your assets should be distributed, it’s worth talking with an estate planning attorney about whether additional planning may be appropriate.

The biggest takeaway? 🤓
Estate planning isn’t simply deciding, “Do I need a Will or a Trust?” It’s sitting down with a qualified professional, 👨‍⚖️👩‍⚖️explaining what you own, who you want to protect, and what you want to accomplish, and then creating a plan that’s right for YOU and YOUR family.

August is National Make-A-Will Month, so if you’ve been saying, “I need to take care of that…” maybe this is your reminder. 😉
