Rare Moonbow at Cumberland Falls!
One of the most magical things about Cumberland Falls in Kentucky is that it’s one of only a handful of places in the world — and the only one in the Western Hemisphere — where you can see a moonbow naturally.

A moonbow is a rainbow created by moonlight refracting through the mist of the falls, not sunlight. It appears as a ghostly white arc in the night sky, visible only on full moon nights with clear skies. While regular rainbows need the sun, moonbows are rarer and more elusive, making Cumberland Falls a unique destination for stargazers and nature lovers.

This rare phenomenon is just one of the reasons the falls are called the “Niagara of the South” — standing 68–69 feet tall and spanning 125 feet wide, with over 3,000 cubic feet of water plunging daily.

If you’re visiting in the summer, you might catch both the daytime spectacle and the moonbow on a clear night — a sight so rare it’s worth sharing with friends who’ve never seen it.
