Everyone wants to blame interest rates, but the real problem is bigger than that.

In the 1950s, the typical home was around 1,000 square feet. Today, it’s closer to 2,500 square feet.

Back then, homes were smaller. Families were bigger. People shared bedrooms. Most homes didn’t have the giant kitchen, bonus room, walk-in pantry, three-car garage, home office, and every bathroom looking like a luxury hotel.

Now we want the affordable price of the 1950s with the square footage and upgrades of 2026.

That math doesn’t work.

The average home didn’t just get more expensive. It got bigger and nicer.

Part of the reason the “American Dream” feels so impossible is because the definition of a “normal home” quietly got super-sized.

Huge congratulations to some longtime friends on closing on their very first home! 🏡🎉

This one was special for me. Watching people, you’ve known for years work hard, stay focused, and finally achieve a major life goal like homeownership is something I’ll never take for granted.
