Tackling Ironman Arizona in Tempe was a single day but also the culmination of a 1000 day goal that I set in place to build toward lifelong health & wellness. It was a journey that carried me from learning to swim and to a build up with at least 3 sprint triathlons, 4 Olympic triathlons, and five Half Ironman races in the past few years. Each race came with lessons learned and each grinding training session came as a stepping stone of progress - whether guided by a coach, meeting up with friends, or grinding away solo before the sun came up. Every race came with lessons learned through grueling training sessions that served as a stepping stone of personal progress.
There are countless people to thank for the support and encouragement along the way… The entire Burn Boot Camp and Lake Norman Tri Club communities for the amazing athletes who inspire me daily by commiserating our shared misery over many miles of training. I have so many great training friends that I’ve made along the way. - Lastly and most importantly, I have to shout out my amazing wife, Alyssa. You are my lobster and your support since day one of this journey has been unwavering. When we first discussed triathlons at our 2021/2022 goal setting getaway you may not have known what we were signing up for and I couldn’t have even toed a single starting line without you by my side. You are the best swim coach (literally teaching me how to not drown) and most incredible Sherpa at all of my races. From balancing my hangry stubbornness and literally helping me out of bed daily after surgery - you rolled with every twist and turn that this journey has taken. And then there is all of the meal prep and cooking, endless loads of laundry, stocking up on gels & powders, and so many other little quietly affirming moments that you and Cana provided along the way. Thank you boo.
And while today is a day of reflecting on the race and what it took to become an , I’m excited to say… Stay tuned to see what’s next! 🫢
